Experienced content strategist, creator, and storyteller, New Zealand-based with global experience.

Kia ora, I’m Kelly. The person behind the content, with lots of stories to tell and the experience to tell them well.

Who is Neat Trick?

Hi, I’m Kelly. Mother, sister, partner, creator, collaborator, writer, baker, big fan of music, movies, design, specific fonts and travel.

I’ve been in the creative industry since quarter-inch tapes were still a thing (Google it). Over the years, I’ve perfected my craft in television and at creative agencies in New Zealand, Australia, and London before making a side step into digital, working on websites and content marketing. Long, short, written, filmed or designed - I love working on all sorts of content with all types of people and businesses. It’s a fast-moving industry, which means I never stop learning and developing my skills and services.

I’m a ‘whole-brain’ thinker.

Age and experience have seen me shift from a complete ‘right-brainer’ into utilising every part of my grey matter.

Getting to know what makes you and your business tick, understanding your audience and their needs (segmentation, personas), your goals, KPIs, and pain points, helps inform a solid, targeted, and creative content strategy with clear, measurable messaging. I design marketing campaigns that work across every platform, using multiple media, including print, video, and even podcasts.

I know some things.

Besides having the ability to remember the lyrics of songs I haven’t heard for eons, I’m also highly skilled in various editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects. Like Sonny and Cher, pictures and words go together, and I love to craft copy. Whether it’s a radio script, a brand video, a case study or an article you need, it’s all delivered with an SEO and AIO lens applied.

AI tools. RI results

AI is a brilliant tool that I am proficient with, but it doesn’t have instincts, perspective, or 28 years of experience. I do. Everything I create is powered by RI - real intelligence, the kind that comes from genuine curiosity, real-life connections, and actually giving a damn about your business.

Want to see my stuff?

From directing Olympic gold medallists to trained cats, working with Australian public broadcasters to global education furniture designers, I’ve had the privilege and pleasure to create some great content throughout my career. So just imagine what I can do for you.

FAQs

Got questions? Excellent. Here are the ones I get asked the most, answered honestly. If you have any more, just drop me an email, and I’ll be in touch.

Where do I start if I don’t know what I need?

1

It always starts with a friendly, no-pressure kōrero (conversation). Most of my clients come to me knowing they need something. More website traffic, better social content, and a video that actually explains what they do. But they’re not sure how to get there. Heads-up, that’s pretty normal. So, we’ll start by having a relaxed, non-obligation chat about your business and your goals, and then we’ll work out the next steps. No jargon. No hard sell. Just an honest conversation.

How do you work with clients?

2

Collaboratively, and always with your business goals front of mind. Once we’ve agreed on the brief, I’ll develop a strategy or creative approach and talk you through my thinking and ideas before anything gets written, filmed or designed. I work best as a genuine creative partner, invested in your business, focused on your pain points and not someone who disappears with a brief and reappears with a finished product. You’ll be involved at the right moments, and I’ll keep communication clear and straightforward throughout. Most of my clients are busy people who need someone they can trust to just get on with it, and that’s exactly what I do.

What makes Neat Trick Productions different from other content marketing studios?

3

A few things, honestly. Neat Trick Productions is not a large agency with layers of account managers and junior creatives. When you work with me, you work directly with me, Kelly Brown (and no, the party wasn’t at my house - IYKYK), a senior content marketer and strategist with nearly three decades of experience across television production, creative agencies and digital marketing in New Zealand, Australia and London. I pull other experts and talented folk in as and when needed. So if I don’t have the skills or gear, I know someone who does.

And finally, I care. Not in a throwaway way. I'm genuinely invested in the businesses I work with, and I believe real connections produce better creative work. That's the Neat Trick difference.

How long does a project take, and what does it cost?

4

It depends on the scope, but here's a general guide. A website copywriting project typically takes two to three weeks from briefing to final copy. A content strategy I can turn around in a few days. Shorter projects, like a blog post, a social media package, or a video script, I can turn around in under a week. As for cost, I work. I estimate the entire project using a variety of hourly rates, which means you get what you pay for, not a vague daily rate. Every project is quoted individually based on your brief, and I design an approach that works within your budget. The best way to get a feel for what's involved is to get in touch. I'm always happy to have a no-obligation conversation before any commitment is made.

How can I contact you?

6

With our unpredictable weather, carrier pigeons are unreliable and smoke signals are bad for the environment, so email is probably your best bet. Find me at kelly@neattrickproductions.co.nz, call me on +64 21411877 or head to the contact page.

It’s me IRL, and I can make a great cup or tea or coffee. (AI can’t do that!)
